TOWNSHIPS
Cass County is comprised of fifteen townships. The Cass County Road Commission is responsible for the reconstruction and maintenance of primary roads along with maintenance of local roads. The Townships are responsible for reconstruction of local roads within the county. At the direction of the Township Boards, local road improvements are done by Cass County Road Commission on a contractual basis. Each year a portion of the Act 51 Local Road monies received by the road commission are allocated to each township to be used on a 50/50 basis for these improvements, as provided for in Act 51. These allocations are made by percentage of local road miles located in each township to total local road miles in the county. If the township chooses not to use the allocation, the funds are forfeited.
The Road Commission is prohibited by law from entering into contracts with private groups or individuals for road improvement or maintenance. Contact your township for information on dust control material application on gravel roads. Special signs or work on private roads must be done on a contractual basis with the township.
