CONTROLLED HUNTING PROGRAM AT LAWLESS PARK
The current hunting program operates on a lottery permit/fee system. A set number of annual hunting permits are made available to be purchased in advance of the hunting season for a reasonable fee. In-County residents are offers a $10.00 discount toward the purchase of their permit which only they may use. The actual fee structure is established by the Cass County Board of Park Trustees.
Permits may be issued in limited quantities for small game, deer (gun, muzzle loader, and bow and arrow), and waterfowl. A hunter may only purchase one permit from each category of permits and the permit cannot be used by anyone except that individual. Muzzle loader gun season for deer is included in the deer gun permit. The park is divided into four sections/areas with a restrictive number of hunters allowed in any section on any given day. Hunters with annual permits must sign in and sign out after each hunt and record pertinent information on the registration sheet.
Those hunters NOT acquiring an annual permit may be offered a map of the nearly 3,000 acres of State DNR open hunting land in and around the county that they can hunt without a permit.
Due to an over abundance of requests for hunting permits, the lottery will take place the end of September at 9 a.m. for all permits except the deer gun permits. This lottery will be held the 1st of November at 9 a.m. Applicants for permits may only enter one application in each lottery. Up to four hunters may apply on one application, or individually, but not both. All applicants drawn are expected to purchase the permit at least three days prior to the opening day for that season. If payment is not received in full by that time, the applicant will forfeit the permit and it will become available to be reissued to another applicant. Any attempt to abuse or violate the lottery system or guidelines of the hunting program may result in the loss of hunting privileges for the involved person or group for that year.
